Camp!

Last week the Appalachian Progressive Education Center hosted its 6th Annual Summer Theater Camp! The camp was a major success with over a dozen students enrolled, and the complete production of two original plays. The plays entitled, The Smurfs: A Parody and Our Super Awesome Play  were created by this years campers from start to finish, and  each group put on a spectacular performance at ArtsWest on Saturday July, 30 2011. The camp successfully implemented  the basics of theater production within the children, while still allowing them to be creative, and helped build qualities like cooperation, patience, and self-confidence! Click Here to view this year’s program!

Camp Dates

This year’s Summer camp dates have been finalized! This year APE’s Summer Camps focusing on MUSIC, THEATER, & MOVEMENT will take place from July 24th-July 29, 2011! The camp will be located at ArtsWest, and a very special theatrical performance will be given by all of this year’s talented campers on Saturday July 30,2011!Registration information will be available soon!

Reorganizing!

Here at the APE Center, we are currently undergoing some structural changes. These changes will result in the APE Center being able to more effectively carry out its goals, and reach a broader range of the Appalachian children. These changes will not have an effect on the center’s mission of bringing high quality art and education programs to the youth of southeastern Ohio! Be on the lookout for more updates from the APE Center, as we will be sending out updates concerning the latest news on the centers reconstruction, important upcoming dates, and more ways to get involved!

Over the past four years we have successfully developed and presented a number of programs to further the goal of integrating arts and character education into children and youth school and after-school curriculum. Some of the programs which APE has presented include:

APE Center strives for sustainability of its programs and highly supports cooperation with other non-profits to serve the community best. Over the years we have cooperated with ARTS/West, the Dairy Barn, Paper Circle, Public Libraries Network, Chandlers’ Art Guild, Elemental Athletics, Kids on Campus, and West Elementary Arts Council for Children.

We also provided the community with our free children programs at various fairs and festivals: Paw Paw Festival, KidsFest!, Great Outdoor Adventure, PumpkinFest, etc.
